Redneck Feminist Described as "Otherwise Sensitive" (In other news: Hell finally freezes over)
My sensitivity can be witnessed in blogging about "pro-lifers" who get abortions, ugly chicks who think feminism is just for all those other ugly chicks, and anti-feminist women who come running to the feminists for help once they get dumped.
Yeah, I'm a pretty sensitive person.
She can choose to groom herself, eat smart, exercise, and dress herself to best advantage. And all of those choices do reflect her character to some degree.
But for the most part her appearance is governed by heredity, over which she has no control.
So it's irrational to judge a person by her level of beauty.
I wasn't judging Allen for being ugly, I was simply responding to her assertion that feminism only helps those who are "ugly and surly". Because if that we true, then feminism would have helped her a lot...
As stated in my "hot enough" post, it is in the ugly chick's best interest to NOT be a feminist if she is desperate for a man. Is that me judging? I don't think so. It just seems to be the ugly chick's dominant strategy in a prisoner's dilemma. We live in the real world, and the reality is that we *are* judged by our looks. I am simply reporting the truth.
BTW, I have been to your blog before (found it from Happy Feminist) and thought your humor was a bit like mine... so I'm surprised you can't tell when I'm being sarcastic (or just tying to strike a nerve to see who will holla).
What I'm trying to point out here is the logical fallacy of the argument (put forth by conservatives) that ugly women only become feminists because they are too ugly to get a man. Obviously, as a feminist, my true opinion is to never settle for less.
That implies that feminism is advantageous only for good-looking women.
Yet you call yourself a feminist.
Is there some hidden logic here? And is pointing out another woman's lack of beauty the feminist way?
"That implies that feminism is advantageous only for good-looking women."
I didn't imply that. You just inferred it.
Let me re-post what zuzu said, because she said it better than I.
"Yeah, seriously. See how comfortable guys are with football lovin’, beer drinkin’, belchin’, scratchin’ bulldykes."
The point is that people are less intimidated by feminists who are hot. That doesn't mean I think that's how things *should* be. Get it?
As for Charlotte Allen, well, she punched first. I'm not a leftist, I'm not Jesus Christ, and I don't turn the other cheek. If you punch me, I'll punch harder and dirtier. *She* is the one who made fun of ugly people. In response I merely posted a picture of what *she* looks like. I think it gave her a taste of her own medicine. If she wants to judge other women, why should she think she is free from the same judgment? I'll tell you why: She knew most feminists whould be too AFRAID to point out her ugliness.
I'm not. I'm not politically correct here at Redneck Feminist. I'm also not a feminist purist, and I do some "unfeminist" things from time to time. If you can't handle my sarcasm and crassness, you probably shouldn't read my blog (as stated in the title bar).
For the record, I don't think being ugly is a bad thing. I don't think ugly people should try to look like me or even *you*. But you give advice on your blog about what plain chicks can do to achieve your level of beauty. What gives? Are you implying ugly people should be unhappy with themselves? Oh, right. You were being sarcastic. See, I get that.
